Two bars away from level 35, and I have a new favorite pasttime. I'm fond of herding DE. But you see, the trick is...not just any DE.
I went to Eden for the first time yesterday, and tried to yank groups and it was pretty much a pathetic disaster. (In the sense that I dragged like 5 sentries together and the combined cairns brought my combustion damage to -1 to -4 hp a tick or so. Or the many many bosses in these hazard zone spawns which take soooo long for a solo tank to kill.) So alas, though I was looking at Eden as a nice source of DE, I may have to look for a new place, like Founder's Falls.
The real story started in Crey's Folly. I was just putzing around exploring the place, I remembered there used to be a whole bunch of mushroom DE in the water that sprung up on me once. I flew around like a madman and never found anything. Then, night happened to fall in-game, and pop pop pop pop FOR THE HAMIDON, DIE DIE, and so on. Shrooms sprouted!
And practically all of them were +2 to +3 Minions, with the odd Fungoid Lt. now and then.
Oh yea, herding frenzy. And I have a feeling that plant DE is suseptible to fire or something. Because I cut them down easily, and each one of them gave me 645xp. My eyes nearly popped out as fast as the shrooms.
I spent some happy happy times in-between pickup team missions herding shrooms. And cos I didn't have to share the xp with anyone, muhaha, you could see the bar increase. I tried to turn on Herostats to track the xp rate, and the instant you killed the minions, the darn thing shot up to like 20,000xp/min. Of course, it then proceeded to tick down from there, as you can't keep this kind of thing up, you have to go around and pick up the spawns again. But the damn thing lagged me too much, so I could never quite track on average, how much I was getting.
Alas, between this and pickup teams going around, the shrooms went from red, to orange, to yellow and then to white or so.
And it is limiting, in that you can only do this during the night time. During daytime it all dries up, and you get bored and have to fly off somewhere else to do missions. Or rather, I hate killing any other hazard group spawn with heaps of high hp bosses in 'em.
So, where else would there be DE? Aha. Eden. And I went there. With aforementioned results.
I mean...it was doable, it was just kinda slow, and very tedious when it got to the bosses. And some of these bosses can hit really hard so you end up chewing inspiration candy anyhow.
So no Eden for me (oh, it was ironic, when I /whoall'ed the place, there were three tankers in there and no one else)...
New herding zone until I5 hits, Founder's Falls. Spawn sizes are much smaller, tendency is lot more minion and lt. than bosses, and I can pull bunches of them at once until the clump looks big enough for me to use my AoEs. *beams*

I'm glad to say when I went to Test to try out what to get for level 35 - either Buildup or Incinerate - I decided to try my luck massacring DE also.
A single group of 3 orange DE were no sweat, though they certainly hit for a bit more than normal. (ie. from like 4-20 hp red numbers to 44-74 red numbers.) But thankfully, a tank has high hp in the first place.
Dull pain, having been 3-slotted with recharge, and near perma-hasted (5 SOs) also seemed to come up rather handily, so I didn't have to respite that much. (I am so going to 6 slot that. Or maybe 4-slot with 2 heals cos of diminishing returns.)
So since DE are smash/lethal and invul is still apparently king of smash/lethal, I thought I'd try to herd. If herd is defined as carefully cherry-picking about 3-4 minion/lt. groups, and about 10 total mobs. Quite survivable. And they died nicely. For a total of 6200+ xp or so.
As a contrast, I herded up a whole mission floor of whites and blues (30 some?) on Live and got like 4000xp for my efforts.
Granted, they were whites and blues and not oranges, but my mission was too old to make a fair comparison. :P
