Great. Got up at 6am today, all ready to write, and stalled in panic over the enormity of the task and insecurity about how ideal it was gonna be, whether it would be true to RoD or not, and then promptly depressed myself by reading more RoD logs and realizing that it was a fun game.
Note, past tense, -was-. It was nice to haul around six alts at once and kill stuff and achieve things and explore and discover stuff that was new.
It stopped being so nice once we started to get cut down on the number of characters we could play, when things started to get repetitive and gameplay got stale (level, run, level, run) and when equipment and achievement got so valued and so expensive and so much a sense of pride and achievement and vested in one's self-esteem that you couldn't bear to lose it, or even risk losing it.
Permanently.
And then I remember how much it sucked, getting sucked into this deceptive perspective of the world.
So after two hours about brooding for potential storylines and 2983 words in my notes file rather than my writing file, I now have four 'maybe' threads to do. Maybe I'll continue with a RoD-based world, maybe I'll do a CoX fanfic, or a WH40K one.
And maybe I'll just wing it.
The problem with random generators is that after a while, I start admiring the generator and how it was built, and wanting to see the lists behind it, rather than actually taking it seriously.
But anyhow, this random generator from Seventh Sanctum actually choked out a scenario that seemed quite well formed to me.
This is a surreal comedy with a focus on the frailty of human life. The story is about cooperative demonologists. It starts in a house of ill repute. The story begins with hunting and ends with a lecture. Monsters on a rampage play a major part in the story.
So since this is Janowrimo and I don't have to be all focused like Nanowrimo, I'm gonna try and experiment and have four open threads so I'll have four (equally unpleasant) choices to choose from and I'm gonna try and wing this last one without an outline...
Finally got 294 words in. Initial scene done. One hour approx. God, my speed sucks balls.
P.S. If you google "Nanowrimo resources" you can find a bunch of cool stuff.
http://www.truckpoetry.net/resources.php has a nice word count tracker in Excel, though I had to update for Jan 07 and re-work out and edit a whole bunch of formulas that either got screwed up in the port to OpenOffice or were wrong in the first place.
