Sidetrek: Urgh

I am a sick puppy. A very sick puppy. Warning: Those with weak stomaches or less able constitutions may want to skip over this entire post. Nasty gruesome descriptions of general unwellness and bodily secretions follow.

It's bad. The fever started on Sunday. Now, thankfully, it didn't go up into the freak-out range of 103 F or 39-40 C, but the damn thing lingered. I must have coughed down 1000 mg of paracetamol (2 Panadol tablets) like clockwork every 6-8 hours and it didn't seem to do much good at all, besides temporarily relieving a pounding headache to low levels of agony and perhaps, maintaining the fever so it didn't rise any further.

24 fucking hours, my brain was frying, my body literally drying wet towels. S'not good. Fever stayed at 38.8 C or 102 F for ages. Started on antibiotics and nothing, slept as much as possible and still nothing. Sure, it dropped a degree now and then right after I took Panadol, and then promptly rose once it wore off.

Monday morning - STILL feverish. Good thing it was dropping slightly, went to 99-100 F. But you can't convince me that's normal body temperature still. Started sneezing out as much watery mucus as I was putting in fluids. Occassionally, an involuntary sneeze would hack out this gross glob of thick yellow, streaked with red blood. Wondered if I was losing bits of my lungs - chest sure hurt enough. Decided this was most likely a bacteria infection cos of the nasty yellow color. Antibiotics sure didn't seem to phase it though.

Looking up symptoms, I think sinusitis is likely. Infection. Blood is prolly from there. Had this kind of symptoms before. This round's fever sucked though. Frontal sinuses hurt - dull throbby headache. Nose is rubbed red raw from the tissue I've used. Filled half the dustbin full in a day. Had a nose bleed too, probably all the poking around and forceful sneezing - but if I don't blow my nose, it clogs up and I can't breathe and it's determined to ooze out anyway.

Monday afternoon. I'm kinda scared to go to sleep now. Thank God for one small favour. The fever has broken. I'm back to normal temperature, hopefully, but the nasal drip has increased tremendously. If I lie down, it's gonna flow all over the back of my throat. Face forward and I'm gonna drown myself in watery snot.

Came up with the idea of breathing some steam from hot water in. It's doing good things for my sinuses, much easier to breathe, but I have a feeling my throat is getting worse for the wear. Catch-22.

Monday evening. Yep, nasal drip has come up with one fucking MOTHER of a sore throat. Hurts like hell. You know it's bad when you suck one of those lozenges with a local anesthetic and you STILL feel the pain from the throat right through the anesthesia. Drinking cold water hurts. Let's not even discuss trying to swallow anything the least bit salty or dry. Forget the raspy sandpaper analogies, this feels like someone took a coarsely broken piece of wood and randomly stabbed, leaving splinters behind.

Come Thursday, I'm supposed to be speaking in public for about 6 hours. Yeesh. I hope I can manage it. I have my doubts. Trying to rest the throat badly. I feel like a medicine pot, I've consumed dunno how many tablets and lozenges by now.

And this was supposed to be my well-deserved rest/leave/off days. Har.

Man proposes, God/Fate/The Tao disposes.
