Played WoW last night. From about 9pm-1.30am, with an hour's break for dinner. Reflected on how the quest hubs were getting a bit more widely spaced apart (accomodating for mounts, presumably.) Realized that queueing for PvP Battlegrounds took about 5-20 minutes (I'm on an extreme Horde dominated server though - it also seems they are mixing it up with folks from different servers here) and each Battleground took anywhere from 15-30+ minutes to complete. Getting professions ground up to be commensurate with one's level was also timesink-y, and involved the most backtracking and visiting of areas across the continent to-and-fro (that is, if you're not willing to twink and pay premium prices on the AH to save time.)
Theoretically, you could still complete one short quest hub and get a sense of satisfaction, but it is ridiculously tempting to go "just one more hub" like Civilizations "just one more turn" and end up staying up all night. That is, until you land into a hub that looks like a major town and too big to take in at once, then you think, ok, maybe I better stop.
There was still half an hour to kill before the Steam deal refreshed. Since it was so near time, I might as well wait it out.
But I was tired of WoW. So... Hmm. Maybe I would poke my head into City of Heroes, even though it feels like another kind of grindy...
Or maybe Guild Wars.
Told myself, ok, if I can log into CoH fast, I'll play that. If not, I'll boot up the fastest starting MMO client I know, aka Guild Wars.
Of course, I hadn't downloaded the Winter Event patch yet, so I was staring at a (albeit reasonably fast) 10 MB download. Bah.
Started Guild Wars while CoH updater ran in the background.
Client ground a bit as it tried to load the game while CoH updater finished the download and started trying to apply the eensy 10MB patch to 4.2 gig worth of data and taking longer than the download itself.
GW loaded. CoH still not done.
Looked around to get my bearings. Decided that the quickest and easiest thing to do in GW is maybe attempt a normal mode story mission. I was on Bloodstone Fen. Checked the GW wiki for the bonus steps...
Got halfway through the mission about 15 minutes. A little error in calculation destroyed my bonus. (Do not kill a certain mob.) I was going to flag away all the henchmen and heroes. But then there were hostile mobs in between the mobs not to kill. So I thought, maybe if I flag them in the middle ground and set all the heroes on passive, they will just run there without fighting.
Alas, I looked back to see that the stupid mage henchman had rain of fire'd the mobs (Aiyeeee) and in my mad run to get them all past the danger zone, I didn't realize that my minion master still had one remaining servant under the jagged bones enchantment (I thought I waited long enough for all of them to die first)... which created a jagged horror... which was busy industriously attacking the mobs not meant to be attacked.
OH FER EFFING )(@#@# SAKES.
*Bonus Failed* popped up cheerily on my screen. Clearly, the Master of Whispers is OP on a normal mission.
Grumble. I paused to reflect on how GW missions all seem to need 2-3 repeat play attempts if you're trying to do something a bit harder than bare minimum. While the hostile mobs in between were playing bat-a-ball with my set-on-passive heroes. Grrr. Oh ferget it. I'll give it another try again later. Hit the "X" and closed the client, trusting that my PC would end up back in town.
CoH had finally updated itself.
8 minutes to go to Steam refreshing its sales. Hmm...
I read a book to wait instead.
P.S. It was worth the wait. Has me drooling as compared to the last two days of 'meh.'
