[Commercial break time. This is off-topic (ie. not really related to CoH), but wanted to share.]
I’ve been really busy moving house. As in, horrifically busy the last week. As in, goddamn, where did my one week of leave go? As in, omg, I can’t move in the new place without falling over boxes or plastic bags full of…stuff. As in, I wanted to pick something up from the side table in the corner, but because both paths to it are crammed to death, I just said, heck, forget it, I’ll get it later (real later, like after I clear up the boxes and stuff.)
(And this is slightly CoH-related) As in, ye gods, it’s Sunday night turning to Monday morning and I never even managed to get a TF going this weekend.
*sighs*
And after which, you can imagine what work was like on Monday after a week of neglect.
So I only got to pick up CoH again after sleeping like the dead on Monday night and waking up real early (4am) on Tuesday morning.
Tried Ochre (the fire/ff controller) out, and well, it was kinda painful after so long playing scrappers again. I did finish a defeat 15 Lost mission. And the only bite for a pick-up team was this strange gal called electric girl (or gal, I forget). Must have been a WL noob, I dunno. She picked up a tank called Earthlord after me. I thought, great. ‘troller, blaster, tank, we actually might have something going on here. My bad. I shouldn’t think these things. It jinxes everything.
I said, “Hi.”
Earthlord said, “Heya”
(Silence.)
(Long pause.)
electric gal: “hi”
(More silence.)
(No missions are set.)
(Earthlord goes to Talos Island. Probably deciding to go see his contact and do his own solo thing while waiting. Just like I was decimating grey Lost for my own mission.)
Finally I can’t take the silence any more. “What’s the plan?” I ask.
(You guessed it.)
(Even more silence.)
“What are we doing?” I say again, just ‘cause I’m really a desperate team whore as a ‘troller.
(Earthlord vanishes from the team. Prolly quit.)
I go and check the electric gal out, and she’s just standing there, staring into a corner. The only thing that would have made it classic screenshot material if she was half up against a fence. Then I could have made a KILL SKULS logo out of it. :(
But yea, same sentiment. I don’t know if she was trying to be an xp whore or something, but hiring a tank and ‘troller to do it seemed to be an extremely ridiculous concept at best.
So it got too boring playing CoH and I decided to go install one of the singleplayer games I’ve been sitting on for ages. (And managed to dig out after the move.)
Sid Meier’s Pirates. Darn, I barely had two hours on it but it was fun. I’m only still sore that I can’t call myself Guybrush Threepwood because of the character name length. No matter, some day, I’ll make myself a Captain Guybrush.
Other stuff I’ve been drooling over.
Guild Wars – the release date has been announced! *gasp* April 28. All hail it. 3 more beta weekends, then pure unadulterated fun. Yay.
Dragonshard – I wasn’t impressed by the Eberron world. But the previews of this game are really amazing. If the dev team pulls this one off, it will be one of those innovative deals to hit the world. (And yes, I wanna fight a beholder whose eyestalks have different powers and unique AIs.)

*Grin* The lovely anecdotes we have.
11some pm, got a ninja invite. Accepted, was darn tired already, but accepted. What's the plan, I asked...oh, it's the last mission of the Banished Pantheon story arc for a level 24 tank. Timed mission in a nifty outdoors map. Ok, I'm feeling kind, I'll help.
Nevermind why this 24 is inviting a 29 to help with a mission...everything cons grey to me, so no chance of me dying. Other 28 controller he invited, peeked into the mission, and said it was too low, left. One more controller, and a scrapper. We went into the mission, that tank is still somewhere.
So hey, I have stealth and superjump, I run around clicking blinkies. One blinky left, and then we can kill the boss.
Tank (leader) never came on map, poofed. Other controller left in disgust, probably. Scrapper and I left on the map, with the timer ticking down. Scrapper asks me if I was going to finish the mission for our missing leader.
Nah, I told him. Maybe he thinks we'll finish it for him. But nope, we aren't, although we could, you know. But we're not going to. So we left the mission map for the tank to log on later and see he's failed his timed mission.
I just don't get some people. Their behavior boggles me. It's so blatantly selfish and self-serving that I'm surprised they don't bury their heads in shame, but just waffle on oblivious to the fact that they're imposing.
Real life anecdote? I'm moving house, right? So there's a lot of stuff left in the old place we don't want, and we offer it free to people we talk to.
Suddenly, while we are still mid-move and sorting out stuff, the horde of scavengers descend. Friends, neighbours, relatives, everyone.
And while some of them are nice enough to only root through the piles designated as "Here, these we don't want, you can have them if you like..."
There are still some greedy pigs out there who, guess what, start "Helping" us out in our packing.
They see a container they like (ie, want to have and bring home.) They take a big plastic bag and throw its contents into it. "Here, you can go back and sort this out." They run off with the container.
...
Hello? Like, we need those containers to -store- stuff?
Some of these people, sheesh, they're literally taking anything not nailed down. They started in on the curtains before we told them, um, those are kinda like fixtures, we need to leave them for the next owner?
Or the favorite - they start packing without us. A neighbor we thought we trusted has the key to the old place. Well, the husband is reliable, the wife is a lil...wacko. She went in and started 'helping' us by clearing out a pile of unsorted stuff. Right into the recycling and trash bins.
(...)
Jeez. What is wrong with these people?
After seeing the kind of morons there are in real life, I'm suddenly not amazed any more at the multitude we have online.
The only thing that shocks me is how some of these people manage to figure out how to turn on a computer and type. Even in broken barely legible English, it's still a feat.
