So... I'm pretty much suffering from withdrawal because I have to sit in the office and wait oh so anxiously for the day to pass, so I can run back home and play CoH again. The only thing vaguely CoH-related to read is the forums, but right now, bleh, there's pretty much nothing worth reading on the damn forums.
It's a bunch of whines about I5, a bunch of whines about the whiners of I5, and this furious back-and-forthing of numerous 'sides' - be they tankers, defenders, blasters, controllers, people who think they've been gimped, people who say you aren't...now shut up, and on and on and on and sheesh. And most of them are bitter too. Either they hate the devs, or they hate the whiners who hate the devs, or they just like being contrary for the hell of it, and well, there's just this nuclear escalation game of people shouting at each other, and being verbally nasty.
Sad.
Issue 5 has hit, and I am still tanking.
I did throw everything down to start a quickie arrow 'fender for fun, where I invited a whole team of numerous arrow and sonic blaster/fenders plus one stubborn Invul tanker. We mutilated our way through the first few levels, and then ran into a red/purple mission. Our insane tank (good heart, but brain not in right place) decided he would try and tank everything, and you can guess face-planted really easily. After all, he IS a lowbie with no slotting to speak of. And he eventually got depressed and quit. We gave up on the red/purple mish. Amusingly, I held my ground the longest, even on a def - once a tank, always a tank. Just had to use inspirations. People don't use inspirations enough.
I did manage to meet someone who had a high level alt on Infinity and we indulged in a mutual infl exchange. So now Rapid Meltdown is amply funded as my future def to bring to 50.
But I'm still having a freaking blast on Invictus.
I decided to be a coward and try the Heroic set mission, since after all, I'm supposed to be nerfed, right? God, I fell asleep. Or wanted to. 2 white-con minions. 1 yellow lt. 2 whites. 2 whites. 1 white and 1 yellow. Oh man, I had to drag groups together to make a clump that looked worthwhile enough to fire off some AoEs. Done before I knew I'd finished.
Next mission, Tenacious. That got better, some more yellows, a couple more lts.
I'm now trying Rugged and it seems ok, yellows and oranges now. Oh, funny story. I decided to go gather a group of these Nemesis fellows, and man, I was wondering how come these automatons hit so hard, I have to keep eating lucks and respites, my dull pain isn't recharging in quite enough time, as I gathered them. Clinging on by the skin of my teeth, I finally killed them and went phew.
Then I realized I didn't have Invincibility on. (Shut it off to fly to mission without aggro'ing stuff.)
ROFL. I survived on resists, toggles, sure, but just resists and inspirations.
I think I should be able to do unyielding fine. Soloing anyhow.
Grouping should be interesting. I got called in to do an AV mission, and I was like gulping to myself, nearly wetting my pants for fear it would like an Infernal mish and that I would get smeared on the ground. Laughed in relief when I saw it was a Terra mish and everything was 36-37. (Set to Heroic too.) And they also pulled in a dark def, so that was even better still. Not a problem. Terra dropped dead in 2 mins. And the two blasters and scrapper were like, wow, that went sooo much better.
So then we went to clean up the rest of the mish and I tanked every group fine. The alpha took me down to half hp, but there's always dull pain, and the dark def did apply debuffs and heal about midway through combat - but the first part of it was entirely me soaking alpha. Albeit using lucks and respites frequently.
Granted, there was a defender there, but that, I suppose, was the point, right? Reliance on every other AT to do their job.
Of course, the cynical question: Are we always going to find a def or a tank or a whatever-you-need? Who knows.
But I can still solo. And yep, it's still fun for me to do that, solo-group-herd-combust-fireswordcircle by myself.
