Stop herding? Har har.

Lol. Let me try and get this straight, the defence and AoE and other such nerfs in I5 were put in place because the developers wished to discourage herding as a profitable past time...

So how is it that when I went to the back of Crey's Folly and picked up 10-15 minion spawns, I could HERD (yes, that's right, I used the H word) at least two to three spawns, and that was me being very conservative, so as not to lose taunt effect, as I was only using invinc aura - taunt being neutered, after all.

Your math is correct, that sums up to about 40-50 freak minions and lieutenants all clumping around me, paying off to a tune of 500-550ish xp per minion and 1000-1300 xp per lt.

In, and I hate to say it, much more safety than a normal heroic mission if I joined a 4-6 (let alone, horrors, 8) man team.

Why? Invincibility. The shining defence of the nerfed invul tank. 40-50 freaks is nothing, if their base accuracy is 50% and there is a LOT of them to make sure my 14 mob limit is kept at peak for a long while. Ditto my AoEs. Does it matter how long I take to whittle them down, hitting them 14 at a time, until they all die? It takes barely two or three AoEs before the minions are dropping like flies, and replace with more targets, yadda yadda. And freaks oh so courteously get up again and again too.

Should I bite off more than I can chew, there is always the Unstoppable button, which is, normally my self-RA and adds to my end, so I can churn off AOEs at an insane rate, killing minions very easily before unstoppable crashes. Finish up the leftover lts with air sup, and a bunch of fire swords, with damage periodically upped by whatever that damage boosting skill is called - buildup? Then fly off to a nice spire to sit and rest until the crash, and repeat.

Totally within my control, no crazy teammates to knockback or scatter, no spread-out non-smash/lethal mobs in missions that cause soooo much pain, no funky abilities, no high hp bosses, no freaking arch-villains that would knock me into next week's hospital bill without so much as a by-your-leave.

...

I dunno, somehow maybe they have missed the mark on this one if they have successfully encouraged me to herd (gained two bars of xp in about 1.5 hours by myself) and not run missions in a group. I haven't died when herding stuff in crey's by myself, and I have faceplanted dunno how many times the last times I have teamed up in I5.

Not to mention, teaming makes me feel insecure in I5 - I feel I have to prove that tanks are still not as gimped as people think, and it's off-putting when I really do drop dead, and the fragging spawns scare me with their alphas. I piss my pants when my hp drops to red soaking the first bit of damage. How sad is that? A tank scared by the spawns in a multiple-man mission. If I want to avoid it, then I can't run into the center of stuff, I have to poke my head around the corner and taunt back and make the team wait as the stuff comes running to clump to me at a corner. Fun? Not really in my book.

Contrast that with me running through 3 spawns by myself, waiting round the corner, watching the tide wash in, and then burning right through them with my own AoEs. Now isn't that a bit more...buff? heroic? even, dare I say it, godlike? And of course, fun?

Hell, yeah. No doubt when other tanks figure this out, then we may have the awful spectre again of people sitting around to watch tanks herd, and feeling bitter and whatnot as a result. But for now, well, let's let them team with their precious sonic defenders and celebrate the non-presence of tanks. They are having fun, after all. And so am I.

This tank knows...that Statesman's 'changes' have urged the formation of thoughts like these: teams don't need tanks, tanks don't need teams either. And herding dead? Har!
