Read a piece on Massively about poly-gamers and mono-gamers.
I am, of course, sadly or otherwise, squarely in the poly-gamer category. One look at my Steam games list answers that question, let alone all the MMO and other singleplayer game titles I've tried.
(But never completed.)
So it's a character flaw. Or strength. Or trait.
I keep getting these heaps of ideas about stuff I should/could be doing next. Sometimes I even write them down. Almost anything that stimulates my interest fires up my enthusiasm. For about a day.
And then the flighty butterfly of a mind ends up stalling habitually when the opportunity actually rolls around to GET SOMETHING DONE. It ends up going to sleep instead.
I have no clue why I find it so difficult to just pick something up and go. To just start. Why is there such a high activation energy?
Perhaps I'm anticipating how long the whole process will take, and how complicated all the substeps are... leading to a "can't swallow the elephant" stall.
In theory, I know all the steps. Break up the elephant into small pieces. Do one thing at a time. Just focus on the next damn action and nothing else.
So damn hard in practice. There are a bazillion and one next damn actions on a googol of various projects bouncing around in my head - or it sure seems like it. There are also so many hours in a day and so many minutes in an hour. One does not appear to fit into the other, and my brain freezes and wants to take a nap instead.
Counterproductive as hell, but every time I consider doing something else, I just get more and more sleepy.
Blah.
