Spoiled By Free WYSIWYG

You know, there was a time when I actually understood HTML and enjoyed the arcane primitivity of writing brackets and funky code words using pathetic Notepad.

Then people got increasingly clever with dynamic HTML, css stylesheets, embedded videos and other ActiveX crap and it all got completely beyond me.

Enter websites like Blogger and Backpackit that made writing fairly painless and nearly almost WYSIWYG.

Enter free options for organizing and filing thoughts like Freemind, and Zulupad and even specialist format support like Celtx for scripts.

Heck, it got so bad that I look at wiki markup and I whimper because the format is so foreign and I don't really want to learn how to deal with it if I don't have to.

But I have recently been struck by the thought that I want to archive, in a sort of blog format that supports pictures and screenshots, a self-referential analysis of the games I've played and the systems/minigames within them.

A blog format would cripple sorting/retrieval. A wiki would be more ideal, though I don't really need the collaboration functions. A lightweight cross between a document management system/tree-structured folder/note system and an online wiki in the style of backpackit/blogger would be best.

Enter Luminotes: The Desktop Edition. Did I mention the word "free?"

It's not 100% perfect, but it's close. I could get it hosted online, but there's a limit of 30 MB. So keeping it locally on my own computer is better for now.

Presumably I will be able to export it to other formats, or synchronize it with the online version at some future point once there is any actual substance worth sharing.

Man, the rationalizations I go through to make resubscribing to ATITD worth it. Haha, yes, I plan to take pictures of each separate minigame and analyze them. For real, this time. Not just blabber in endless paragraphs about each activity. I mean, I've got to have a self-assigned short term achievable goal while I wait for the long term goals to come to fruition and have finished with the "hi/byes" of social networking.

And I am SO done with growing cabbages, onions and raising sheep. I am gonna dabble. That's it. No more chore-like habits unless I want to. And I can stop whenever I get sick of the chores.
