Temptation to Tinker

Given prior track records, I'm highly tempted to tinker with Baldur's Gates' scripts and "improve" on them in the vein of Nethack (in an attempt to make the game even more sophisticated.)

Of course, chances are quite high that I might simply break something instead.

Had an incident in a Beregost inn where this belligerent guy called Marl got in my PC's face. Because my PC is not exactly tactful, I roleplayed a more rude option versus the polite, diplomatic, conciliatory option that would no doubt calm him down and score me xp and do-gooder points.

So he attacked me. Fair enuff. He's angry.

But my PC is not evil. He's not an assassin out to kill me. He's just some drunk in an inn. So why should I stab and chop him up with my bastard sword? My PC is a big burly brawler, so I picked the unarmed fist weapon, and told the other members in my party to stay out of the fight. (I had to send them way out of LOS because of an AI script that got in the way and didn't want to uncustomize the combat script right there and then too.)

We brawled. I hit him with a few good right hooks. And he tumbled unconscious. Alas, he still stayed red circled.

So I eventually had to turn off all the customized AI scripts, roleplaying walking out in a huff, victorious. (If I didn't turn off the script, our darling murderous Khalid would have shot the unconscious guy with an arrow, slaying him and netting us 650xp. Some Harper. *snorts*)

Would have been nice if the guy had recovered and stayed grumpy/intimidated or pulled a knife or whatever. But alas, no code for that. Yet.
