Dragon Rage!

Dragon Age? How about "Dragon Rage"? A variant of "Road Rage" or "Nerd Rage", it's when you want to rip out the game bodily from your hard-drive and toss the discs out of the window.

Wiped >5 times while trying to kill Flemeth. Finally the game itself crashed from the reloading. Gave up, tried travelling to Redcliffe village instead, and wiped 3 times on a random encounter with what I swear are 30+ mobs. Finally managed to survive it with two party members dead and the other last two hanging on somehow to make it to Redcliffe.

Did quests. Ran around, talked, Fedexy-style. Then a protect the village against incoming skeleton hordes which went quite well with all the cannon-fodder NPC knights and villagers. Went into the castle proper.

Whoa! Suddenly ambushed by a pack of skeletons. Just as I finished the first ambush, another pack appeared. No stamina. No endurance. Splat.

This is on "Normal" difficulty. And after I used a mod to spec my mage into having more AoE damage (then, it gets hard to nuke when the mobs jump you from nowhere in a narrow corridor and you're knee-deep in skeletons and zombies).

Guhhhhhh. *bangs head on keyboard*

Whichever designer designed Dragon Age clearly did not comprehend the concept of "average" gamer ability and "normal" difficulty.

That, and they make heavy use of the old trope of "if it kills you, it's too high level for you, avoid it next time until you level up."

Which rather makes the concept of a -roleplaying- game with choices and consequences pointless if your only choices amount to "go here or die."
