Cyborg Operator Error

Cyborg fail!

Alright, mea culpa, I didn't read the quest text. Not properly anyhow, and it didn't register. Why? Because 99% of the other quests, Questhelper was working fine, and there were always coordinates and everything posted on third party websites like these if I got confused.

Of course, it didn't really occur to me WHY there were so many comment posts beyond this quest. People were obviously having some sort of trouble with it.

See, first of all, the Trial of the Sea Lion has been patched right out of the game. You can buy your aquatic form from the trainer, no need to run the quest, everyone happy. That takes out 95% of the Achiever Loot Whores who just want to get to endgame without sidetrekking.

Being that I wanted to try the quest, I said, why not, I'll do it when I have time and meander into those zones. Silverpine Forest was particularly far away from the rest of my questing territory.

I did find the flight masters to speak to. They told me the usual vague direction story common to LOTRO. See some kind of landmark, head in some compass direction from there, wander a little ways and tada, you'll see whatever you wanted.

Yea, yea, fine, whatever, I had Questhelper and third party websites, right? Detail flew out of memory.

Problem was, when I later tried to do the quest, Questhelper did not have the pendant locations marked. Why should they? For a druid quest that had been patched out of the game?

Okie. Consult third party website time. Good lord. So many posts. So many words. Nevermind, I find a few posts with the coords, that should do it. 29,29 or 39,39, they can't agree. Whatever. That's just two places to check, right?

The first time around, it was my n00b mistake, so to speak. I'd just flown into Tirisfal Glades from Ogrimmar. I was searching around for coordinates. Oh hey, there's a 39,39 up there, and someone mentioned the Great Sea, and look, it's marked Great Sea on my map.

I run all the way north, plunge into the water, and find nothing at the coordinate besides a lonely level 13 elite shark. Which I destroyed thanks to being 11 levels higher.

It finally strikes me that I'm in the wrong zone altogether. As Silverpine Forest is on the map of Tirisfal Glades, but it's not exactly colored in...

*sighs* Fine. I run down to Silverpine Forest. Long run. :( I search around for the 39,39 map coords again and swim there.

What the? Still nothing. *boggles*

I try going south from there. West from there. Covering nearly the entire coast, adjusting coordinates... Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

Finally, I decide to read the longer verbose posts which are full of opinion and description and short on actual direction. (Someone neglected to post what the actual flight master said in the quest text, y'see, and I wasn't going to run back across 3 zones just to go check again. Wasn't in quest log either.)

Teased out painfully the fact that you had to find a sunken ship off a certain area. Check! Got that. See it in the distance. Had been swimming around it at various points.

You had to go WEST from there. And it would take not longer than 3 minutes to get there.

Ok, I was already going west from there.. Huh? Hang on... 3 MINUTES worth of run (or swim, as the case may be?)

I should be going a LOT further than where I gave up then. Even though the coords are way off the 39,39 mark.

So I started from the sunken ship. And I pointed west. And I swam and I swam and I swam.

And just as the zone changed from Silverpine Forest to The Great Sea, I saw the bubbles which led to the bubbly fissure, and the lockbox containing the sea lion pendant half that I wanted.

And then it struck me. Zone change. Local coords for each separate zone. Check the map and sure enough, the lockbox was sitting at 39, 39.

FOR THE GREAT SEA AREA. Not Tirisfal Glades or Silverpine Forest.

No wonder people were getting confused if they never read the quest text directions and just went to Silverpine Forest's coords.

Bright side, I have learned a bit more about the underlying stuff behind how WoW works. Fool me once... but not again (I hope).
