Exploring means "Wasting" Time

It's sometimes quite amusing to see how the original design of WoW as Exploration-based has translated over into an Achievement-centred game focus, as egged on by the endgame.

I'm typing this while enjoying the foreshadowed scenery along a flight path from the Moonglade to Thunder Bluff.

As an explorer, I really like this aspect of the flight masters. It lets a lowbie have a safe preview of the zones they will someday be in, and creates foreshadowing and heralds the point when they will one day be that powerful.

As an achiever, I'm either going to do this one time, or not at all, because it's a time-waster. I might as well only teleport to the Moonglade when my hearthstone is recharged (now that they've cut the timer to a 30min cooldown too) so that I can instanteously be back questing after I've done any required "crap" in the Moonglade.

Another case in point is the 'lost' quest for a druid aquatic form. Previously the quest sent you all over creation in order to 'earn' one's aquatic form. Now apparently a patch has put in the achiever shortcut of just buying it from the trainer. So it's filed under things I could do to read the story, but there's no forcing of achiever-minded people to sidetrek all over just to get it.
