Teetering on the Cliffs of Insanity

Went to Tec-Drome today. Bought Blood Bowl. T'was something I wanted for quite a long time, and download prices are $49.95 USD, and I got it for SGD $46, so that's all right.

Couldn't resist putting in a limited edition pre-order for Aion. Shiny art book. Shiny figurine. Decent game for a couple months. Lots of potential screenshots for my future enjoyment / 'learn to paint fantasy landscapes' study. Not too shabby. T'was all right too.

No, the insanity part came when I was admiring the WoW Battlechest, now on offer with a sixty day timecard thrown into the deal for SGD$99.

2 months... that's $30 USD, or $45 SGD. So for $44, the price of a singleplayer PC game, you get the original game and expansion serial codes, and shiny and cute to read (if really useless and obsolete at time of printing) so-called "strategy guides" that I have a slight weakness for.

Of course, that's running on the presumption that I can actually stand to log into WoW and play for 2 months and enjoy myself in the bargain.

There's the temptation to at least experience the old world before the new Cataclysm changes everything. And figure out what the hell millions have been ranting about for ages.

The combat isn't horrible. I quite miss the cartoony bubble numbers.

I'm sure I will still find running about very unfulfilling in a empty spacious maze kind of way, but I can liven up my game by taking screenshots, and I've had practice zoning out and staring at a movie in the other monitor from ATITD...

The quest text I will most likely still find quite pathetic. I'm not 100% sure how long I can last killing 32+ apparently skinless boars (oh, sorry, wrong game, that's LOTRO. How about zhevras?) in an attempt to gather 17 zhevra hides.

But the idea of meditative single combat versus pushover mobs, quick solo leveling, and so on isn't too bad.

The druid shapeshifts now have cooler skins... So that's a plus...

There's one thing I'm REALLY terrified of. Inventory management. I haven't seen a game with SMALLER bags than WoW. Seriously, wtf. For such a gear-focused game, why is it that one's bags fill with so much crummy junk so quickly?

I'm not sure if WoW actually has smaller spaces than other games, but perceptively anyhow, that seems to be a crunch point.

But yeah, there is a crazy temptation to say, what the hell, and prance around for a couple months in WoW.

I hung back just an itty bitty while longer. I did just buy Aion, after all. Maybe that WoW-alike will settle my funky MMO cravings and cool me down from the point of insanity - at least for a ittle-bitty while longer.

I could. But there's also many many many other things competing for my time that might just be a bit more worthwhile. I dunno. :/

Teeter. Totter. Teeter. Totter. Wheeeeeee?
