And I thought ATITD (or other MMOs/RPG variants too) was the only thing to make me run around in circles, doing one thing in order to enable another, in order to get at something else...
Have just spent the last one hour trying to access the wireless internet at work, only to find myself mysteriously jammed, so I rebooted in a vain attempt to refresh the connection, which didn't work, so I tried a few more things, rebooting again, and wound up going on a convoluted hunt to disable one automatic network access manager, to enable Windows to access the network, which worked for a second, then rejammed itself when I re-enabled Zonealarm in paranoia, which made me suspect that my absolutely last updated in 2006 copy had finally reached its expiry date and redownload a new copy, which downloaded the installer, which tried to install, which reported that my old Zonealarm copy was seriously past its prime and had to be manually removed via the Control Panel, which I did, which then suggested I needed to reboot, which I tried to ignore and installed the new one, which downloaded again, which told me I was a lazy arse and stuff was still pending deinstallation so reboot dammit, so I did, then I clicked the installer which downloaded Zonealarm again, which installed, which again (of course) wanted a reboot, so I did (again), which finally installed and started playing nice with my wireless adapater and got my internet working.
Sigh.
